Description of Program and Relief
Unemployment Benefits
As part of its ongoing state benefits programs for workers, the State of California provides unemployment insurance to eligible workers who become unemployed or partially unemployed. The State has clarified that these benefits are available to otherwise eligible employees who are laid off due to the impact of COVID19. Workers who have been temporarily laid off because of COVID-19 who expect to return to work with the same employer within a few weeks are not required to actively seek work each week they are unemployed as long as they remain able, available, and ready to work during their unemployment and meet all other eligibility criteria. The otherwise-applicable one-week waiting period has been waived for claims related to COVID-19.
