Description of Program and Relief

Suspension of Certain Commercial Restrictions for Food Trucks

As a part of special COVID-19 relief measures, Governor Gavin Newsom has issued Executive Order N-52-20, which, among other things, suspends restrictions on commercial activity in safety roadside rest areas from April 16, 2020 to August 14, 2020 to enable commercially licensed food trucks to operate and sell food in designated areas in compliance with a temporary permit issued by Caltrans.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

Commercially licensed food trucks operators must apply for a temporary Caltrans license to operate and sell food in designated safety roadside rest areas.
