Description of Program and Relief
Sanitation and Shelter Services for the Homeless
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Long Beach will be providing sanitation kits to the homeless, and will prepare shelter for any homeless individuals who have possibly contracted COVID-19.
The Winter Shelter will remain operational through September 30, 2020. On April 1, 2020, the Winter Shelter moved to a larger facility at the old North Long Beach Library, located at 5571 Orange Avenue. The old location, at 1718 and 1722 Hayes Ave., will serve as another temporary shelter location.
Further, the City of Long Beach has opened two additional temporary housing shelters. One shelter is at Silverado Park, located at 1545 W. 31 Street, and the other shelter is at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (King Park), located at 1950 Lemon Ave. These shelters will provide additional, temporary housing to persons experiencing homelessness in the City during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The shelters will offer triage assessments, meals, snacks, recreation with social distancing and additional social service resources as needed.
