Description of Program and Relief

Deferral of Fees and Permit Renewals for Businesses Subject to Police Regulation

The San Diego City Council has approved an emergency ordinance deferring all fees, assessments, and renewals for police permits for businesses that require police regulation. All fees and assessments related to police permits have been extended by 120 days from the payment due date. Although the due date has been extended, businesses are still required to pay these fees and assessments. For businesses that are due to renew their police permits between April 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020, those permits are automatically extended by 120 days from their expiration date. These extensions do not limit or prohibit the Chief of Police’s ability to take regulatory action against permittees.

Businesses and residences will still need police permits for burglary or panic alarms.
