Description of Program and Relief

90-Day Mortgage Payment Relief With Certain Providers

As part of its COVID-19 emergency relief measures, the State of California has negotiated with certain financial institutions to provide mortgage payment relief for California homeowners who have been impacted by COVID-19. The relief includes: (1) a 90-day grace period for mortgage payments; (2) at least a 90-day waiver or refund of mortgage-related late fees and other financial institution fees (such as for early CD withdrawals); (3) no foreclosure sales or evictions for 60 days; (4) and no reporting of late or missed payments to credit reporting agencies. The financial institutions have also committed to providing homeowners with the opportunity to request additional relief upon continued showing of hardship related to COVID-19.

Participating financial institutions include Wells Fargo, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, U.S. Bank, and 200 other state-chartered banks and credit unions. To see a full list of participating financial institutions, click here.
