EXPERIENCE
Of counsel in the Real Estate Department, Joseph E. Browdy has focused on a variety of commercial real estate transactions, including purchases and sales, financings, joint ventures and property development. One area of particular concentration was commercial leasing and for several years, he chaired the Practising Law Institute's (PLI) program in that field.
Mr. Browdy has represented major corporations and other institutional clients on real estate matters of all kinds. Client representations include Time Warner Inc., ITT, Ford Foundation and several of New York's largest law firms. He was active in various aspects of the redevelopment of 42nd Street since the project began in the early 1980's and represented the non-profit organization that is responsible for restoring and re-leasing seven of the historic theaters on that street. Following his retirement from Paul, Weiss, Mr. Browdy served as General Counsel of the Lincoln Center Development Project, Inc., the Lincoln Center affiliate responsible for the program to remodel and upgrade the Lincoln Center campus, from 2002 until 2007.
Mr. Browdy has lectured on real estate-related topics for the NYU Real Estate Institute, ALI-ABA, the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, as well as for PLI. He served two terms as a member of the Committee on Real Property Law of the City Bar Association and is also a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
Mr. Browdy served as an editor of the New York University Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army.
