A partner elect in the Litigation Department and a member of the Digital Technology Group, Anna Gressel is a sought-after advisor to leading global businesses on a wide range of complex and high-impact matters related to artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies. A pioneer in AI law, she was named by Re-Work as one of the “Top 100+ Women Leading AI in 2023”—one of only three lawyers in private practice listed.
Anna leverages her extensive knowledge of emerging regulations and industry best practices to counsel companies on their most complex and cutting-edge AI issues, including AI safety, integrity, intellectual property, testing and red-teaming, governance, compliance, risk management, national security, privacy, data governance, regulatory compliance and consumer protection. She also represents companies in high-stakes litigations, regulatory inquiries and internal investigations regarding AI, digital assets and other emerging technologies. Given her broad experience and up-to-the-minute knowledge of AI policy and legal developments worldwide, Anna often also serves as global AI policy counsel to major companies. Her clients have included leading public and private companies in the technology, asset management, banking, insurance and life sciences sectors, among others.
EXPERIENCE
Anna has extensive experience in:
- Product counseling and risk assessments on behalf of technology developers and other companies, including with respect to intellectual property, privacy, safety, integrity, consumer protection and other AI-related legal, regulatory and reputational considerations;
- Litigation and regulatory defense of companies facing high-stakes litigations, regulatory inquiries and supervisory examinations regarding AI, digital assets and other emerging technologies;
- Internal reviews of generative AI practices for boards and senior legal leadership to benchmark and identify AI best practices in light of emerging regulatory expectations and peer practices;
- Internal investigations, enabling companies to take strategic action in light of potential regulatory exposure;
- Governance and compliance advice and benchmarking, including with respect to AI risk assessments, inventories and vendor risk management;
- Investment and deal diligence in connection with investment targets and market opportunities related to AI and other emerging technologies;
- Holistic counsel on emerging AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act, U.S. Executive Order on AI and Colorado AI law, as well as a broad range of laws and regulations relevant to AI, such as the Communications Decency Act, Fair Housing Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Copyright Act, FTC Act, federal banking regulations, state insurance regulations, right of publicity laws and state consumer privacy and biometric privacy laws;
- Global AI policy advice and strategic counsel, including with respect to federal, state and international regulatory and legislative efforts; and
- Board-level briefing and education on AI and emerging technology risks and opportunities.
Anna co-hosts the award-winning Waking Up With AI podcast, which delves into the latest AI developments, regulations and use cases. She is also a very active thought leader and speaker on AI liability, intellectual property, governance, regulation and compliance on a global stage, with recent and upcoming presentations in Brussels, Italy, France, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Abu Dhabi, among others. Anna has delivered numerous keynote addresses and spoken on panels at events hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce, the American Bar Association, the Practising Law Institute, the New York City Bar Association, the New York University School of Law, the Athens Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law, IEEE TechEthics, Edward Bennett Williams Inns of Court, the New York Arbitration Week, Italy’s “Festival of Diplomacy,” the Connecticut Bar Foundation, the SCCE Compliance & Ethics Institute, ASCAP, the Danish Association for Entertainment and Media Law, and the Copyright Society, among many others. Anna is also actively involved in the development of junior lawyers, particularly women lawyers. She currently serves as a commissioner on the ABA's Commission on Women in the Profession and was previously a member of the board of directors of Ms. JD, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the success of women in law school and the legal profession. She is also a co-chair of The Copyright Society’s 2025 Annual Meeting.
Anna was awarded the senior prize in neuroscience while at Pomona College. Prior to attending Harvard Law School, she was the recipient of a Fulbright research fellowship to Morocco. She is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
