Clearlake Capital Acquires Chelsea Football Club in Consortium Deal

Paul, Weiss, acting as M&A and Funds counsel, advised Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. in its acquisition of Chelsea Football Club in a consortium co-led with Todd Boehly, Chairman and CEO of Eldridge. Under the terms of the agreement, Clearlake and Mr. Boehly will share joint control and equal governance of the Chelsea FC, and Mr. Boehly will serve as chairman of the holding company. The transaction closed on May 30 after the parties received all necessary approvals from the UK government, the Premier League, and other governmental and football authorities. 

The consortium also includes Hansjörg Wyss, founder of the Wyss Foundation, and Mark Walter, co-founder and CEO of Guggenheim Capital.
