M&A at a Glance (July 2012)
July 16, 2012
We are pleased to attach the July issue of Paul, Weiss's M&A at a Glance publication. In addition to an overall decline in U.S. and global M&A volume compared to May 2012 figures, last month's M&A activity also showed a decline in the average size of transactions. The average value of M&A transactions fell by $9.7 million globally and $75 million in the U.S. Moreover, looking at the figures for inbound and outbound U.S. crossborder transactions and the total number of deals globally and in the U.S., the overall decline in M&A activity appears to be concentrated outside of the U.S., suggesting that the current uncertain economic environment is having a stronger impact in non-U.S.jurisdictions, such as Europe and Asia. The uncertainty of the current economic climate has also had an impact on hostile activity, which at no hostile deals for June 2012 is down substantially from the 17.1% of hostile deals for the last 12 months.
