Paul, Weiss Earns Accolades for Landmark Pro Bono Victory on Behalf of Disability Advocates

The Paul, Weiss pro bono team working on behalf of Disability Advocates, Inc. is being recognized with two significant awards for their landmark victory on behalf of individuals with mental illness. For the firm's outstanding work as lead counsel in Disability Advocates v. Paterson, MFY Legal Services, Inc, will present Paul, Weiss with the "Matthew G. Leonard Award for Pro Bono Excellence" at its Annual Pro Bono Recognition and Awards Breakfast on February, 26, 2010. The team was also awarded with the "Adult Home Resident Hero Award" by the Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled.
As a result of the Paul, Weiss team's work, the District Court for the Eastern District of New York held that New York State has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by segregating individuals with mental illness in adult homes. The Paul, Weiss team representing Disability Advocates included litigation partners Andrew Gordon and Ankush Khardori.
