Description of Program and Relief
Rhode Island Works (RIW) Program
Rhode Island Works (“RIW”) is a comprehensive program that offers cash assistance (between $449-634 for families of two to four people; $80 a month for each additional member); assistance with finding work or job training; transportation reimbursement or bus passes; and childcare assistance programs.
COVID-19 amendments:
-
Vendors offering job training programs have provided options for remote engagement with families.
-
Employment plans needing signatures will be mailed to parents to be signed, and either returned via pre-paid envelopes in the mail or uploaded to the customer portal.
-
Families whose job or training program is closed due to COVID-19 will be granted a good cause exemption rather than face sanction for not fulfilling the requirements of their employment plan.
-
RIW has delayed recertification and interim requirements for March 2020, and will do so again for April 2020. Additionally, they are in the process of lifting both work education and training and office of child support services sanctions on parents.
