At its annual Hong Kong Law Awards on September 6, Asian Legal Business awarded Paul, Weiss "Equity Market Deal of the Year" and "M&A Deal of the Year" for the firm's involvement in Alibaba's buyback arrangement with Yahoo! Inc.
Paul, Weiss represented Silver Lake, a global leader in private investments in technology-enabled industries, and an Asian sovereign wealth fund in their increased investments of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, the largest e-commerce company in China, on its buyback of shares from American multinational internet corporation Yahoo! in transactions valued at $7.6 billion. The transaction is the largest-ever private financing for a private sector Chinese company and the largest non-LBO private financing for a technology company globally.
