Edwards Lifesciences Achieves Another Major Patent Victory Against Medtronic
- Client News
- January 23, 2014
As reported by Law360, Paul, Weiss client Edwards Lifesciences obtained a victory when the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a Central District of California's summary judgment decision holding that Medtronic's patent-in-suit was invalid. The Federal Circuit was not persuaded by Medtronic's attempt to overcome the summary judgment decision, characterizing its argument as an "attempt at linguistic gymnastics." The decision marks another major victory in Edwards Lifesciences' long-standing patent battle against Medtronic involving transcatheter heart valve technology and comes just a week after the Paul, Weiss team representing Edwards Lifesciences obtained a $393 million jury verdict against Medtronic.
The Paul, Weiss team included, among others, litigation partner Catherine Nyarady and of counsel John Nathan.
