Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Daniel Meade and David Gerst have joined the firm as counsel in the Financial Services Group within the Corporate Department, resident in Washington, D.C. and New York, respectively.
Meade has a broad range of experience advising on financial services regulatory matters, including in private practice at major law firms; in-house at Wells Fargo & Co.; and in government. He has substantial experience in sophisticated transactional bank regulatory issues, including bank M&A, Volcker rule, bank powers, affiliate transactions, Basel III capital including capital relief trades, tying, anti-money laundering compliance, sanctions, and Bank Holding Company Act, Community Reinvestment Act, Federal Deposit Insurance Act and National Bank Act matters. Most recently, he served as the head of the bank regulatory practice at another international law firm, focusing on reviewing structured finance and other transactions for compliance with bank regulations. Prior to his time in private practice, Meade served as an attorney to the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, with responsibility for drafting substantial portions of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act. Meade began his career in the Legal Division of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Meade earned his J.D. from Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and his LL.M. from Boston University School of Law. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Providence College. Meade is currently a member of the Board of Advisors of the UNC School of Law Center for Banking and Finance and the Executive Council of the Federal Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee. He is recognized in The Legal 500 and IFLR 1000.
Gerst has experience both in the structured finance groups of large law firms and on the mortgage trading desk at Goldman Sachs. He has over 20 years of experience across various asset classes, including litigation finance, life settlements, Medicare receivables, solar panel loans and other esoteric asset classes, as well as residential mortgage loans, consumer loans and CLOs. His practice has focused on warehouse lending, asset-backed securitizations, credit facilities and bespoke derivative transactions.
Gerst earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.S. in Finance from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
