Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Brad M. Brown has joined the firm as a partner in the Private Funds Group within the Corporate Department, resident in New York. Brown was formerly partner and general counsel at 3G Capital, a major investment management firm.
“As a longtime general counsel and partner at a leading fund, Brad brings a uniquely valuable perspective to our firm and to our investment fund clients, which are engaged in increasingly complex fundraises, transactions and other matters,” said Paul, Weiss Chairman Brad S. Karp. “We are thrilled to have him join our partnership.”
“Our practice requires a commercial approach to our clients’ most complex and nuanced matters, and Brad truly understands their businesses, having served in a senior leadership role on the client side,” said Marco V. Masotti, global co-head of Paul, Weiss’s Private Funds Group. “This perspective will be a tremendous benefit to our clients in all of their matters.”
“Brad’s arrival comes at a time of immense growth and client demand across the firm and within our Private Funds Group,” said Udi Grofman, global co-head of the group. “His broad expertise, including but not limited to fund formation and investment management M&A, will enable our team to continue to provide the full-service advice our clients have come to rely on us for.”
Brown began his legal career in 2007 at another large law firm. In 2010, he joined 3G Capital as general counsel, also serving as partner of the firm. During his tenure, Brown counseled the firm on all aspects of the fund business and management, including the formation of private equity, continuation and hedge funds; regulatory investigations and compliance with onshore and offshore regulatory regimes; tax structuring; investment management M&A; human resources matters; and general partner and management company issues.
“I am thrilled to join Paul, Weiss and the dynamic private funds team, which is advising many of the world’s largest and most innovative private funds in the market,” Brown said. “I am excited to start the next chapter of my career with the firm.”
Brown earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the Cardozo School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practice in the Second Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Paul, Weiss’s Private Funds Group has successfully raised hundreds of billions of dollars on behalf of asset managers across the liquidity spectrum, including private equity funds, credit funds, hedge funds, venture capital funds, real estate and infrastructure funds, hybrid funds and social impact funds.
