1. What is the most interesting and/or rewarding aspect about your job at Hudson Bay Capital Management from a legal perspective?
What I find most interesting about my job at Hudson Bay is that no two days are the same. The gamut of legal tasks and concerns that we are responsible for as in-house counsel at an asset management firm ranges from fund formation, regulatory issues and employment issues to new product strategizing and investment structuring and negotiation.
2. What traits would you say make a good associate general counsel?
Being a team player, having the ability to pivot quickly and understanding your audience are invaluable traits. A big part of being a successful in-house counsel is being solutions-oriented and appreciating that your audience is oftentimes on the business side looking for ways to achieve their goals. Saying “no” may be the easy and riskless response, but it is generally not the correct approach.
3. What advice would you give a young lawyer who wants to be an in-house lawyer?
Being a young lawyer at Paul, Weiss is the best training for any legal future. Take advantage of the opportunity and soak up as much information and skills as you can!
