Paul, Weiss Named Most Innovative in ESG Practices by the Financial Times

Paul, Weiss was recognized in the “Innovation in ESG Practices” category for the Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyers North America 2022 Awards. The FT highlighted the firm’s pioneering Civil Rights and Racial Equity Audits practice, which was also featured in an accompanying Financial Times article on what is driving the new practice.

In “Political ‘Firestorm’ Spurs Demand for All-In-One Employment Law Services,” published on December 6, litigation partner Loretta Lynch, who chairs the Racial Equity Audit practice, notes that client inquiries about racial equity audits are increasing, particularly as companies that have publicly announced support for diversity, equity and inclusion evaluate their own internal measures. The most recent subject of client interest, she adds, has been affirmative action, given that the Supreme Court is now weighing two cases that could impact or end universities’ ability to factor race into admission decisions.

It is ironic, Loretta says, that people claim to want equality for all, but when it’s implemented, they say, “more equality for you means less for me. [But] it’s not limited. It’s not finite. We can frankly, all rise together.”
