An associate in the Litigation Department, Matthew Merlo focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, regulatory defense, and white-collar investigations for high-profile clients across a variety of industries. He has significant experience litigating in both federal and state court, including disputes involving claims of copyright, trademark, and trade dress infringement; claims of fraud and breach of contract; and claims of violations of antitrust and securities laws. Matthew has also defended clients in inquiries and investigations by Congress, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. He has advised clients on matters concerning the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, intellectual property fair use, cybersecurity, and the Paycheck Protection Program.

Matthew maintains an active pro bono practice, and has worked on matters with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the Bronx Defenders, the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, the New York Civil Liberties Union, Immigration Equality, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, and SHOT: We the People.
