Firm chairman Brad Karp won the 2019 William Nelson Cromwell Award at the New York County Lawyers Association’s 105th Annual Dinner. The award, named for a Brooklyn-born attorney born in 1854 who was active in pro bono service, successful in private practice and prominent in public life, honors unselfish service to the profession and the community.
In an acceptance speech highlighting the firm’s pro bono commitment, Brad noted that the “profoundly human dimension in this struggle to uphold the rule of law ... should not be lost. The targets of these government assaults are human beings. Yes, we are fighting to safeguard important constitutional principles and to protect our system of justice. But we cannot forget that we are also fighting to protect the liberties and freedoms of the most vulnerable among us.”
