Michael Compton McGregor is a counsel in the Litigation Department and a member of the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group. His practice focuses on internal investigations and white collar defense. Michael has jury trial experience in federal court and has counseled clients in sports, media, pharmaceuticals, financial services and other industries.
Michael is a member of the Litigation Subcommittee of the Sports Law Committee at the New York City Bar Association. He is an active writer and has published articles on issues relevant to the sports industry in Law360 and Reuters. He has also been a guest lecturer on copyright preemption and right of publicity at Harvard Law School in the course Sports and the Law: Examining the Legal History and Evolution of America’s Three “Major League” Sports: MLB, NFL and NBA.
Michael was a Fellow for the Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity (2021).
At Harvard Law School, Michael was a recipient of the Dean’s Scholar Prize in the White Collar Criminal Law and Procedure course, and the recipient of the Paul C. Weiler Student Writing Prize for his work “The Off-Field War in Sports: Combating Ambush Marketing with a Mix of Legal and Business.” During law school, Michael served as an intern in the legal department of the National Football League.
